Additional funding improves home care for Yukon residents

WHITEHORSE – An annual increase of $527,000 to the home care budget for individuals requiring care in their homes, subject to legislative approval, was announced today by Health and Social Services Minister Glenn Hart.

“We are working to meet the needs of Yukoners and we recognize that home care plays an important role in the continuum of care and service,” Hart said. “By enhancing home care services in both Whitehorse and in the rural communities, we are helping our citizens stay in their homes longer.

The additional funding supports increased home care hours of service for five community liaison coordinators, home support workers and licensed practical nurses.

“The seniors’ population is expected to double by 2030. Increased home care support can help these individuals to remain safe and independent in their homes for as long as possible. With this service in place now, we are well positioned for the future,” Hart said.
