Yukon to Develop Sister-Province Relationship with Shaanxi
WHITEHORSE – Yukon has signed a letter of intent to develop a sister-province relationship with Shaanxi province in China.
“We want to enhance cooperation and create awareness of business and investment opportunities between Yukon and Shaanxi,” Economic Development Minister Jim Kenyon said. “This letter of intent shows that we are committed to working together to develop a more formal relationship for the future.”
A sister-province relationship is a show of goodwill and a commitment to work to strengthen the relationship between two geographic areas.
Kenyon signed the letter of intent on behalf of Premier Dennis Fentie in Xi’an, China.
“A sister-province relationship with Shaanxi complements the Yukon Economic Development’s asian investment attraction strategy and supports our efforts to enhance business, trade and investment opportunities for Yukon,” Kenyon added.
Shaanxi has a rich mineral industry and a long history of mineral development. This shared interest has led to the creation of joint ventures, including the Yukon Shaanxi Mining Company Inc., which plans to continue exploration and development in Yukon.
To ensure effective communication between Yukon and Shaanxi, the sister-city division of the Shaanxi Provincial People’s Association of Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Yukon Department of Economic Development have been designated as the liaison offices.
