WHITEHORSE – Community Services Minister Archie Lang will join municipal leaders from across the Yukon tonight to celebrate the contributions of territory’s mayors and councillors.
“The elected leaders of Yukon’s communities contribute enormously to the well-being of Yukoners and their communities,” Lang said. “This gala event is to acknowledge their hard work and dedication to their communities, willingness to shoulder the challenges of political community service, and an opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments while in office over the last three years.”
Lang will also make presentations to the Town of Faro to mark its 40th anniversary, and to the Town of Watson Lake and the villages of Mayo, Haines Junction and Teslin in celebration of their 25 years of incorporation.
“The Association of Yukon Communities is honoured to be a part of this celebration,” Bev Buckway, Association of Yukon Communities president said. “The event itself speaks volumes to how far we have all come in facilitating co-operation and collaboration between the Yukon government and the Association of Yukon Communities.”
At the gala event, the Government of Yukon and the Association of Yukon Communities will sign onto a Memorandum of Understanding that reflects mutual recognition of the importance of co-operation, information sharing, and consultation between the two organizations in order to foster healthy and vibrant Yukon communities.
