Economic Development Promoting Yukon in China

WHITEHORSE – Economic Development Minister Jim Kenyon and Deputy Minister Dr. Harvey Brooks will be travelling in China from August 31 to September 8 to promote Yukon economic opportunities and attend a key international summit.

Kenyon will represent Yukon at the 5th International Cooperation Summit hosted by the Jilin Provincial People’s Government of China.

“I am honoured to represent the Yukon government and premier at this summit of world leaders,” Kenyon said. “The purpose of the summit is to promote the establishment of new international relationships and a new international economic cooperation pattern.”

Kenyon and Brooks will make a presentation at the China Mining Association of Canada Conference in Beijing where they will speak to Chinese mining industry representatives about Yukon’s resource commodities, mining projects and investment opportunities.

“Attending international events such as these are great opportunities to promote Yukon and encourage private sector growth in our resource industries. Yukon government also commends the Government of Canada on their recent trade mission to China led by Finance Minister James Flaherty,” Kenyon added.

This mission also includes attendance at the 5th Northeast Asia Investment and Trade Expo that is held in succession with the International Cooperation Summit. Meetings will also take place with the Canadian Embassy in Beijing regarding the Chinese economy, Chinese foreign direct investment in Canada, and the Yukon business immigration program.
