WHITEHORSE – Energy, Mines and Resources Minister Brad Cathers today invited the public to review and comment on the proposed Forest Resources Regulations.
“The draft regulations are designed to enable the development of a viable and sustainable forest sector and improve our ability to responsibly manage our forest resources,” Cathers said.
Public consultation on the proposed regulations is underway until Friday, October 30.
“These proposed regulations were developed to support a modern forest industry inclusive of all forest users,” Cathers added. “The public’s input is essential to ensure the final regulations reflect the needs of all Yukoners.”
There are eight proposed regulation concept documents available for public review, focusing on:
• stumpage and timber marking
• annual allowable cuts
• annual limits on timber harvesting
• forest resource roads
• silviculture and
The proposed Forest Resources Regulations are part of the regulatory regime outlined in the Forest Resources Act. Once finalized and implemented, the regulations will present a proactive management approach that will enable government to promote new investment in the forest sector while ensuring public interests are protected.
