WHITEHORSE – Energy, Mines and Resources Minister Brad Cathers invites the public to provide input on the proposed royalty regulation under the Quartz Mining Act.
“The draft regulation encourages long-term investment in Yukon’s mineral sector by making Yukon more competitive with the royalty and mining tax regimes in other jurisdictions,” Cathers said. “Input from industry, First Nations and the public during two previous consultations on amendments to the Quartz Mining Act have been crucial to developing the regulation.”
The public consultation is underway until July 15. Once finalized, the royalty regulation will enable changes to section 102 of the Quartz Mining Act.
“The royalty regulation outlines clear reporting requirements for industry that will ensure effective administration by the Yukon government,” Cathers added. “These changes will provide a clear and modern royalty regime based on national standards used across Canada.”
The proposed royalty is a share of profits paid annually by a mine owner or operator to the Yukon government for the right to extract mineral resources.
