SCAN Phone Number Now Easily Accessible to Yukoners
WHITEHORSE – Yukon citizens can now easily access the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) office with a new toll-free telephone number, Justice Minister Marian C. Horne announced today.
“Yukoners have responded to this effective legislation by contacting the SCAN office when there is ongoing harmful activity in their community or neighbourhood. We want to make this process even easier,” Horne said.
The toll-free SCAN telephone number, 1-866-530-SCAN (7226), and the Whitehorse SCAN line, 867-456-SCAN (7226), are now listed on the first page of the Northwestel telephone directory. The toll-free number is listed under each community’s listings as well as under the government blue pages.
The SCAN office will investigate a property, when a confidential complaint is reported, for ongoing harmful drug, alcohol or prostitution-related activities.
Since SCAN opened in late 2006, the office has received 324 complaints on 259 properties resulting in 35 evictions. Activity stopped voluntarily after complaints were investigated on another 43 properties.
