WHITEHORSE – Highways and Public Works Minister Archie Lang is pleased to announce $10.5 million of upgrades to the Robert Campbell Highway in the 2009/10 budget, subject to legislative approval.
“Safe, accessible highways are important to Yukoners for travel, but also essential for shippers, receivers and tourists alike,” Lang said. “The upgrades to this highway will contribute to economic growth throughout the territory by providing better access to all who use it.”
In 2008, the Robert Campbell Highway underwent an improvement initiative to upgrade the highway. Throughout the season, reconstruction occurred from km 12 to km 17 and from km 107 to km 114. A multi-level culvert was installed at km 36 and crushed material was produced for various locations between km 20 and 40.
In 2009, the Yukon government will complete the Bituminous Surface Treatment (BST) surface from km 12 to 17 and continue to reconstruct the highway from km 10 to 14 and km 31 to 42.
"Increased activity along this highway has required improvements to current infrastructure,” Lang added. “Upgrades to highway corridors remain a priority as we continue this reconstruction into the next year.”
