WHITEHORSE – Yukon government will provide $4 million in funding assistance over five years to the City of Dawson to make improvements to the Art and Margaret Fry Recreation Centre, subject to legislative approval, announced Community Services Minister Archie Lang.
“Yukon government supports sport, recreation and active living as part of the health and well-being of Yukon communities,” MLA Steve Nordick said. “We are pleased to invest in this vital piece of Dawson City infrastructure that has been central to the enjoyment of citizens in this vibrant community.”
Yukon government’s investment will be managed by the City of Dawson. It will use the funds to address structural repairs to ensure long-term building safety, and to enhance the features of the recreation centre for residents, including potential upgrades to the rinks and second floor mezzanine. Yukon will continue to work closely with the City of Dawson throughout the project to offer oversight and expertise, as required and requested by the town.
“We are pleased our government is able to respond to the City of Dawson’s funding request for improvements to the recreation centre,” Lang said.
The project is scheduled for completion in 2013.
