New Children’s Receiving Home Planned

WHITEHORSE – Health and Social Services Minister Glenn Hart announced $1 million has been set aside to construct a “super green” replacement of the Children’s Receiving Home, subject to legislative approval.

Construction of the new Children’s Receiving Home is to commence this summer.

“We have been working closely with Yukon Housing and Highways and Public Works to build a safe, healthy facility that meets the needs of the residents and staff of the Receiving Home,” Hart said.

The Children’s Receiving Home is a temporary home for children and youth aged 12 to 18 who have been removed from their families because of child abuse or neglect, and who need a period of assessment and stabilization.

“Yukon Housing is pleased to use our super-green technology to ensure that this home is among the most energy-efficient in Canada,” Minister responsible for the Yukon Housing Corporation Jim Kenyon said.
