2009-10 Budget Will Keep Economy Strong; Build a Better Quality of Life

WHITEHORSE – Premier and Finance Minister Dennis Fentie will soon announce Yukon’s largest operations and maintenance and capital budget.

“We have had extensive meetings with Yukoners on the economy and used their feedback to construct an economic stimulus budget that is the largest in the history of Yukon,” said Fentie.

Last fall a Yukon government committee, chaired by the premier, met with Yukoners to monitor and assess economic trends and identify opportunities.

“Yukoners can look forward to record levels of investment in green energy, highways and bridges, water and sewer systems and other public structures that will keep our economy strong,” Fentie said. “Investments in housing for families and seniors, health care and education will contribute to a better quality of life for Yukoners.”

The budget will be tabled in the spring sitting of the Yukon legislature.

“Prudent fiscal management is projected to give our government its seventh consecutive year-end surplus,” Fentie said. “I can assure Yukoners that we are well-positioned as we manage our way through this global economic situation.”
