Yukon Shows Commitment to Mineral Industry at Exploration Roundup

WHITEHORSE – Premier Dennis Fentie and Energy, Mines and Resources Minister Brad Cathers will represent Yukon at the 36th annual Mineral Exploration Roundup in Vancouver.

“The mineral industry continues to be the cornerstone of Yukon’s economy,” Fentie said. “Many of Yukon’s current industry members and potential new investors will be at Roundup and we will be assuring them our commitment to the mineral industry is strong.”

The Mineral Exploration Roundup is the world’s largest technical mineral exploration conference, bringing together exploration companies, geologists, governments and investors. Over 5,000 people with interests in the global mineral exploration and mining sector attend each year.

“Roundup is an excellent occasion to connect with the mineral industry, learn about new developments and provide updates on Yukon government activities,” Cathers said. “There continues to be considerable interest in Yukon’s mineral resources.”

The Premier will be hosting the annual Government of Yukon reception on Monday, January 26. The reception invites selected conference participants to meet Yukon industry and government representatives and learn about Yukon’s mineral potential.

The Yukon government will have a strong presence at Roundup. Staff from the Department's of Energy, Mines and Resources and Economic Development will attend, and geologists from the Yukon Geological Survey will give presentations on summer field work and ongoing research projects.

The 2009 Mineral Exploration Roundup, hosted by the Association of Mineral Exploration British Columbia, will be held January 25 to 29.
