Western Premiers Gather In Alberta
WHITEHORSE - Premier Dennis Fentie is looking forward to meeting with his northern and western colleagues at the 2005 Western Premiers' Conference taking place in Lloydminster, Alberta May 4 to 6.
"The Western Premiers' Conference allows us to develop common positions regarding critical issues that may be advanced on the national stage." Fentie said. "This will be a great opportunity to discuss the potential for intergovernmental initiatives and to further those relationships."
Fentie will join premiers from Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia for the meeting. Alberta Premier Ralph Klein will host and chair the conference.
The agenda items include energy, enhancing trade markets, agriculture, labour market skills shortages, and transportation gateways.
"This year's conference promises to once again be a productive and invaluable opportunity to network with my territorial and provincial counterparts," Fentie added. "We all agree that we can do more for the people of our respective regions by working together."
